Marlboro Nordic Ski Club Announces Marlboro, Vermont Selected to Host the 2034 Winter Olympics

Marlboro, VT — In a stunning announcement early this morning, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed that the 2034 Winter Olympic Games will be relocated from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Marlboro, Vermont. The decision comes after what IOC officials described as the “unprecedented global impact” of the 2025 Wendell Judd Cup, which reportedly drew record-breaking spectators to the Marlboro Nordic Ski Club trail system.

According to IOC representatives, the Wendell Judd Cup demonstrated that Marlboro possesses “all the ingredients necessary for a world-class Olympic host city: exceptional snow, enthusiastic spectators, and a parking strategy that occasionally works.”

The proposed Olympic venue plan showcases many of the region’s most celebrated locations:

  • Potash Hill will serve as the Olympic Village and host all cross-country skiing events. Athlete housing will be located in the dormitories formerly used by Marlboro College, offering competitors sweeping views of the Green Mountains and a short commute to the trails.

  • South Pond will transform into the Olympic Ice Complex, hosting hockey, speed skating, and figure skating. Officials are optimistic that a “solid Vermont cold snap” will provide ideal ice conditions.

  • Hogback Mountain will host alpine skiing, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding events, offering athletes sweeping views of the Green Mountains and, on clear days, Massachusetts.

  • Brattleboro will welcome the world’s best ski jumpers to the historic Harris Hill ski jump, marking the first time Olympic ski jumping has taken place at the venue.

  • Sliding sports including bobsled, luge, and skeleton will debut on the newly designated Whetstone Brook Ice Track, utilizing the natural curves and seasonal ice of the frozen brook running through Brattleboro.

Local organizers say preparations are already underway.

“We’ve long known that Marlboro had Olympic potential,” said Spencer Knickerbocker, spokesperson for the Marlboro Nordic Ski Club. “When we saw the crowds lining the trails for the Wendell Judd Cup—some of them even ringing cowbells—we realized the world was ready.”

Additional infrastructure plans include:

  • Expanding parking capacity to nearly 37 vehicles

  • Installing two additional portable toilets

  • Upgrading the timing shed to international broadcast standards

  • Recruiting volunteers from across Windham County and possibly even New Hampshire

IOC officials emphasized that the Games will retain a “distinctly Vermont character,” including mandatory maple syrup at all athlete dining halls and a ceremonial opening lap on classic skis.

Further details about ticketing, lodging, and the Olympic torch relay—expected to travel by snowmobile, ski, and possibly dogsled—will be announced in the coming months.

Residents are encouraged to begin preparing now for the influx of athletes, spectators, and international media.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Knickerbocker added. “And if everything goes according to plan, we may even groom the course twice that week.”
